Calculate how much space you need

We all seem to accumulate things that we think might one day come in handy. The trouble is we have to store them somewhere and they take up valuable space and always seem to be in the way. It might be the garden furniture you have to move everytime you want to get to the freezer in the garage, or an old settee that you shoved into the spare bedroom because it was too good to throw away or maybe it’s a box of glassware or books that are collecting dust under the bed. Whatever it is, you could make your life so much easier if you had somewhere nearby to keep them safe for you. To see how much space you could save, use the guides below.

Washing machine, Fridge Freezer, Std cooker or tumble dryer  =  4 sq ft.
4’0” chest freezer  =  8 sq ft.
2 Seater settee  =  15 sq ft.
3 Seater settee  =  18 sq ft.
6′ 0” Wall unit  =  9 sq ft.
30 large boxes  =  10 to 15 sq ft.
Contents of a small garden shed  =  25 sq ft.
Contents of a Luton Van  =  50 to 75 sq ft.
Average student bedsit  =  40 sq ft.
One bed or small 2 bedroomed flat  =  50 sq ft.
Large 2 bed flat or small 3 bed house  =  75 to 100 sq ft.
Large 3 bedroomed house  =  100 to 150 sq ft.
4 bedroomed house  =  150 to 200 sq ft.

Remember that boxes and smaller items of furniture may be stacked on top of heavier items or inside wardrobes etc.
